QUESTIONS YOU

MIGHT HAVE

LGBTQ+/SSA Christians, and those who love them!

Our mission is to support and encourage sexual minorities who follow the “traditional sexual ethic,” so each event we host centers the experience of LGBTQ+/SSA Christians who follow this sexual ethic.

Each year, however, we have LGBTQ+ friends with various theological positions, or who are unsure - and straight friends who are learning how to love LGBTQ+ folks. As long as you are ready to honor the experience of those around you, you’re welcome at Revoice.

Conference Attendees: Please Note!

Each year, we foster a wonderful and safe community as hundreds of us gather together. We’re asking all conference attendees to review our “Guest Conduct Agreement” to help us continue to foster a safe and connective environment where all can experience God’s love.

WHO IS REVOICE FOR?

ATTENDING THE CONFERENCE

  • As a conference with hundreds of participants, we cannot guarantee or control the actions of others; that said, we have privacy policies in place which all attendees agree to in purchasing a ticket.

If you have concerns about your privacy, make sure to wear a white privacy lanyard, and you won’t be photographed or videoed by the Revoice team or attendees.

  • Our programming is made with adults in mind, and in the interest of safety, minors may not attend alone. That said, each year we have parents who choose to bring their teens and have a great time!

Stage content is not graphic in any way, but discussions of sex and sexuality are frank, and parents should consider what is best for their child.

  • First-timers should make sure they come to our first-timers meeting on Wednesday at 6 PM – you’ll get lots of helpful tips there and an opportunity to meet some new people.

We’re also creating affinity group meetings during our lunch-times for people to connect, including a “new connections” group to help people meet each other!

  • Come and engage! Each year, about 25% of our annual attendance is made up of straight friends who love us, and many pastors tell us our conference is their best example of Biblical community.

That said, we ask that you recognize who this space is primarily for - LGBTQ+ Christians who follow a traditional sexual ethic. We ask that you don’t ask our guests uninvited questions, and don’t try to use our community space as a “think tank.”

Our speakers welcome your questions and engagement - so go ahead and learn from the speakers, while letting the rest of our community enjoy this space of safety and intimacy.

  • Not at all – many don’t. It’s important to remember that Revoice hosts a diverse community from a variety of faith traditions and beliefs. If you are still discerning your theology, if you have doubts, or even if you openly disagree but want to see what Revoice is all about – you’re welcome to join us.

That said, guests will be expected to honor the dignity and beliefs of others, and recognize that Revoice teaching will reflect our commitment to a particular theology and ethic.

  • Each year, Revoice is hosted by a church that offers us their hospitality and commits to creating a safe, encouraging environment with us. Often, host churches offer us their space at little to no cost, charging only for personnel, and we receive this generosity as a show of love to the LGBTQ+ community.

We love and are grateful for our host churches. That said, host churches do not impact or dictate Revoices’ values and beliefs, and vice versa.

Our presence at a specific church does not indicate that this church agrees with everything said by a conference speaker (as an ecumenical conference, we have a wide variety of disagreement about things outside of sexual ethics), and our presence also does not indicate that Revoice affirms or agrees with every bit of teaching done by the church.

TRAVEL & LODGING

WHERE TO STAY | DISCOUNTED RATES

  • The nearest airport is John Glenn Columbus Airport (CMH), only about 15 minutes from the host church by car. A LYFT from CMH to the hotel will cost about $25 - public transit is possible, but a bit of a slog. We encourage you to carpool if you know others attending the conference.

  • LYFT or Uber is the best way to get around if you’re not renting a car – it only takes about 5 minutes from the hotel. If you're attending with friends, sharing a ride can save some money!

  • Absolutely! The local area is friendly towards LGBTQ+ folks, and the venue is a church that partners with Revoice and is ready to receive us.

Columbus is also one of the most LGBTQ+ cities in the midwest, so you won’t be the only one!

  • If you are attending our pre-conference beginning at noon on Wednesday, we recommend getting in that morning between 9 or 10. You can get a feel for the city, check out a local coffee shop, or come and hang at the church where you’ll find staff and volunteers rushing around to get last minute pieces in place—you are always welcome.

Otherwise, Revoice starts at 7 pm on Wednesday the 26th and ends at noon on Saturday the 29th. You may want to give yourself some buffer to rest.

  • The simplest is to make use of our early bird pricing.

If you know people or can invite people, the experience is better (and cheaper) with friends! That’s our biggest recommendation. Some groups go in and rent a car together. Others get one big AirBNB/VRBO and divvy up the cost.

  • We have arranged a block of rooms at the Embassy Suites in Westerville. Rooms of 2 double beds or 1 king bed are $139 per night. To get reservations with our group rate, call 614-890-8600 and ask for the Revoice conference rate.
